CAROLE K MILLAR
COSTUME DESIGNER FOR FILM, TV & COMMERCIALS
Carole is based in Scotland and offers more than 20 years’ experience in costume design in film and TV.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from Gray’s School of Art, Carole has extensive dressmaking, illustration and textile dying experience. Having studied silversmithing she also runs a successful, small jewellery business.
Working with directors such as Ken Loach, Andrea Arnold and Paddy Considine, Carole has worked on many television projects including drama and comedy. She feels incredibly fortunate to have a career doing something she loves. With a passion for creativity, Carole also loves to collaborate on film projects and brings excellent research and creative skills to the table.
Carole is a Member of The Black Costume Network, BAFTA and BECTU and is actively involved in training people coming into the industry with BECTU.
Story Telling….
“Costume is a very important part of the story telling process. I love my role as a story teller, helping to lift the character from the page and onto the screen. One of the aspects I really love about my job is the research element, I enjoy learning about people’s lives, backgrounds and situations. The differences between us and also what connects us. How we present ourselves visually is a huge part of the journey in any drama. We choose how much we want to reveal about a character at any given time in the story through the choice of clothing, to me this is what costume is. Our exterior is something we control to a certain extent. I engineer that part of the process in Film and TV in my role as Costume Designer”
