California Schemin’ is a colourful and energetic tribute to the UK hip hop and rap scene. Based on a true story and set in the early naughties, California Schemin’ tells the story of two Scottish rappers who reinvented themselves as L.A. artists who then went on to deceive the music industry after being rejected because of their accents. It was an enjoyable, challenging and fulfilling brief with many of the costumes being recreated from photographs and videos of actual events from the time. The film was directed by BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee James McAvoy, who also takes a supporting role in the film. I’m delighted with the look of the film and with a huge SA count it was a massive challenge and a joy to design. Due for global release in 2026.
